Leigh Family Prayer Bulletin - September 2006

Feedback...

Sorry I'm late with this...not that you don't have enough in your inbox already! This is a delay for any number of reasons but mostly so that I could initiate some different technology for sending our newsletters and updating our website. I'll probably blog about it soon but basically our web hosting company changed hands and my previous method for getting out our newsletters became a bit untenable.
Here's what you prayed about last month:
  • House - Well we (I did help...a little) got our roof fixed in the back of our house. We can go into winter with more than a tarp covering up a certain spot on our roof! You can read about it and see some pictures in this blog entry.

  • Alsace Walk - This was a week to remember! The Lord brought fabulous continuity between all 3 weeks of the walk. I blogged about some very cool things that happened during that week. You can read it here.

  • Rachel - We asked that this time of transition would be lived to its fullness and I think it has...at least for me! ;c) I think it has for Rachel as well. Angela and I took her to BFA on Sunday and got her settled in her dorm. It was just the new students on Sunday and that let us get to know a small group of girls, a small group of parents and the staff at her dorm. We had a wonderful time as new parents praying for her dorm parents...a spontaneous time of blessing.

Rachel's room is an answer to prayer with a toilet and shower in the room! Apparently she's quite privileged as this is usually something that seniors snap up quickly!

Her roommate is a girl with an on-fire heart for God. She's the child of American missionaries in Berlin so she speaks German fluently. This is a wonderful combination for my "reconciliation heart"! Angela and I hit it off with her parents as well. I'm looking forward to the relationships that can develop here.

On Monday I returned for new parent and student orientation and class registration. It was a good time and, most importantly, Rachel got into the classes that she needed. This is a big blessing.

So, mission accomplished for getting her settled. Now the adventure begins! (You may want to keep tabs on her blog if you're interested in her goings-on there at BFA).

  • School Year - Well, we've had some back-to-school meetings with the staff and some work days to prepare the school for the new year...but Monday is still way too soon! We had an overnight with the other teachers and their families. Having completed the task of getting Rachel to BFA, Angela and the other teachers started getting down to work. I, on the other hand, felt even more acutely this "fuzziness" with respect to objectives for this year. I had a talk with our pastor about it that helped, and it looks like I'll be involved more with the computers at Collège-Daniel right now, but I'm still in a "waiting mode" to see just what specific direction the Lord will be unveiling.

  • Health - My test with looking at my esophagus showed nothing wrong except the closure to my stomach which doesn't function correctly any longer...which is what we pretty much knew. In order to make sure that there was something to see, my doctor suggested that I not continue the medication to reduce stomach acid. Well, we didn't see anything and now the pain is back. So, no real progress...which is frustrating.

Please Pray...

  • Finances - We had our washing machine let go on us this month. As non-salaried people, we couldn't get any normal payment plans but the store where we bought the new machine did let us write 2 checks. So we bit off a big chunk with the first check and we have more to pay in September. We also got new lenses for Rachel's glasses...also paid in multiple checks. I've had my eyes checked as well and I really do need new lenses...but it's bifocal time for me! After you stop laughing about the aging process, you can start praying for the finances because my lenses (only lenses) will cost about $700!!!. At any rate, we welcome your prayers for financial provision. ;c)

  • Rachel - Please continue to pray for Rachel in her "new life" at boarding school. She loves challenges so her biggest challenge will be understanding what to undertake and what to leave by the wayside. She also has a wonderful opportunity to build life-long friendships with other English-speaking missionary kids...a rare but precious commodity in her life. Please pray for a heart of wisdom as she tackles new challenges and a heart of love as she enters into new relationships...and most of a a continued passionate heart for Jesus!

  • School Year - We're all diving in Monday!. We need God's grace just to be ready! Pray especially for Noah as he needs a something that captivates him at school. Otherwise, school is something he dreads and we can't live with any more of that this year.

  • Health - Angela continues to have back issues and I continue to have digestive issues. We feel the aging process a bit too much in my opinion! ;c) Please pray for wisdom in how to proceed as all medical options seem like burdensome expenses at this moment.

Until next month!

David
