Leigh Family Prayer Newsletter - May 2003

April 25, 2003

Dear Prayer Team,

We hope all of you had an Easter as lovely as ours! We spent the day with my pen pal of 27 yrs. and her father, and the other students who weren't traveling during our current vacation time. It included an egg hunt, a short kid-centered service, a BBQ, and a volleyball game. We were out until the sun set…

To follow-up on last month's letter and list a few prayer topics...

Our Prayer Needs

  • Our Future - This break has been very relaxing, thanks to summer-like weather and not coming on the heels of a major holiday! As mentioned last month, tomorrow David will attend a 1-week seminar on "Reconciliation" with YWAM France to meet the leaders and find out if he is needed to help staff a bigger school on the same topic in the fall. If things come together, we would be able to get back into the country hopefully easily under their organization and plan to settle near Valence. If this doesn't look like a fit, we need God to show us who we are to work with before we leave the country on June 25. (Other possibilities have been popping up, and we'll give more details later if those look like promising!) Needless to say, please keep us in your prayers this week specifically so that we could hear clearly whether this is our next step, and also that Angela will have the physical stamina for the week without a car.
  • Our Health - Speaking of her stamina, nagging physical problems continue. So we have started eating much healthier and hoping to see results (and some weight loss) soon! We are on the hunt for a juicer, but good deals are hard to find in Europe, where the consumer is the servant, not the king!
The children weren't junk food addicts to start with, so it hasn't been a bad transition. Unfortunately, it is more expensive, but so are drugs that treat symptoms, and not the root cause. Time will tell…
  • Our Safety - Lots of people have been curious about our feeling of safety here during the war, and here in a small mountain town we've not had any problems, though we don't wave American flags while we walk down the street either!
  • Language Study - Our tests were less stressful the second time around, and I guess we averaged a "B-." It's hard to compare here, because the French create tests where only the elite few can come close to an "A." So American "C and D" are considered good average scores on a French test! Angela has had a more positive trimester, and the big assignments are not so daunting as her knowledge grows. David has had a harder and somewhat more discouraging trimester and his test scores reflected it. He'll be practicing hard this week though! Pray that we finish strong and persevere in the language study.
  • Olivia - We're getting more pro-active about Olivia's behavior while we have time off of school. In addition to her easily-offended nature, she has also come to a crisis of faith where she isn't so sure she wants to be a Christian after all. She no longer wants to pray because she doesn't ever feel His presence. We could over-react and blame the "spirit of doubt and unbelief" that is over this country that keeps hearts so closed to the gospel, but in reality, Rachel went through the same thing at her age! So we look to the "author and finisher of our faith" to help her make her faith her own in her steps towards maturity because we know God has a glorious plan for her! Pray that she would know God's presence, and believe that she can experience it!
  • Our House - Finally, would you pray for a quick sale of our house in Scotland this summer, and that we would get moved back over to the continent with our minds and bodies intact? A second international move in 3 yrs. feels quite daunting! Many or our friends and teammates in Scotland have moved during this year, and we'll need some help on the France side as well! Anyone interested in coming out to help? Sounds like a valid short-term missions trip to us! :^)

Thank you for praying!!!

Angela and David
